Lurgan Town Res took on Lurgan BBOB res in what was to be a enthralling local derby at kernan playing fields last Saturday with Town taking the field with only 3 players over the age of 18 it shows how much strength and depth there is in the youth set up at the town, Town started brightest playing some of the best passing football they have played all season with 16 year old Ciaran Rooney and 16 year old Andrew Heaney controlling Midfield and Darren Bentley having a great game on the left all linking up well with Stuart Gordon up top and with Jordan Robinson always causing problems with his pace in behind the defense, it was Town who deservedly took the lead when Jordan Robinson again sprung the offside trap got to the byline and crossed for Kyle Cousins to score his 1st Senior goal from a few yards out with the outside of his boot. Town continued to press BBOB creating several more chances which they were unable to take BBOB then made them pay with a goal from a corner but the young lads heads didn’t drop and with Robinson and Bentley looking dangerous another goal looked certain and it came in spectacular fashion with Robinson smashing into the top corner from 25 yards out just before half time.
Half Time Lurgan BBOB Res 1 – 2 Lurgan Town Res
Town were slow out of the blocks in the 2nd half with BBOB coming more into the game and beginning to have more efforts on goal with Taylor Craig in the Town goals was more than equal to with young Kyle Robinson making his senior debut at centre half also catching the eye, it was his brother Jordan who was to grab the headlines again extending towns lead with another impressive finish into the top corner from 25 yards out leaving the keeper rooted to the spot. BB began to throw everyone forward coming into the dying minutes of the match and got one back then with a few minutes remaining they snatched a draw when town failed to clear from a corner, this was harsh on the young town team but if they keep playing like they did for 80 minutes of this match a climb up the table in the remaining weeks of the season looks a certainty.
Best for Town: Young Ciaran Rooney and Andrew Heaney impressed in midfield all afternoon with Darren Bentley back to his best on the Left and Kyle Robinson also looking impressive at Centre half but man of the match this week goes to Jordan Robinson who never stopped working for the cause all afternoon and scored two spectacular goals
