The Academy at Lurgan Town, which runs on Fridays nights from 7.00pm – 8.30pm under the guidance of Robert Davidson and his excellent coaching team, continues to go from strength to strength. On Friday night it’s all about skill development and enjoyment for ages 6 – 10. On Saturday mornings we bring that into what is called game development, playing small sided football in a no pressure environment against different clubs from the local area. Lurgan Town Academy Director, Robert Davidson is absolutely deligthed with the progress the Academy has made. Initially the club hoped to be CIS IFA approved by the 2008/09 season but with the rapid progress it made, the award was handed out towards the end of the 2007/08 season. IFA Grassroots Developemnt Officier Keith Gibson officially endorsed the Academy.
The Academy has approximately 100 children registered who attend coaching on Friday nights with teams playing in the Mid Ulster 7-a-side Mini Soccer games on Saturday mornings. Robert and the coaches encourage the boys to enjoy their football with no pressure and "not the win at all costs" mentality which is so widespread in youth football today. We are firm believers that when pressure is added developement stops. We are there to develop footballers in a positive and fun environment.
